Kaduna State Overseas Scholarship Awards for Qualified MBBS, B.Sc Nursing and Health Technology Applicants.

The Honorable Commissioner of Education, Science and Technology Prof. Andrew Jonathan Nok hereby invites applications from qualified Kaduna State residents wishing to study MBBS,B.Sc Nursing and Health Technology related Overseas programmes to participate in the 2016/2017 exams/selection interviews for the award of the scholarships.

Criteria for Eligibility:

All applicants must be a residents of Kaduna State.
Preferably candidates from indigent families.
All applications must be for MBBS, B.Sc Nursing and Health Technology related degree programmes.
Applicant must possess a minimum qualification of six (6) Distinctions (As and Bs) in the Senior Secondary School Certificate, WACE or NECO (May/June) in science subject(Physics, Chemistry and Biology) including English Language, Mathematics and any other science subject.
Certificate should not be more than two (2) years old (2015 & 2016)
Age limit for applicants should be 17 to 20 years.

General Information:

The scholarship shall not be held at the same time with another award nor for part-time studies.
Change of course or institution is not allowed.
The scholarship is to assist the scholar in the payment of tuition fees and up-keep.

The Etisalat Prize for Literature is a Pan African prize that celebrates debut African writers of published fiction. The recently concluded Etisalat Prize for Literature award ceremony was held on 20 May 2017 in Lagos, where Jowhor Ile emerged the winner for his debut novel, And After Many Days. Jowhor is the first Nigerian to win the Prize, which was launched in 2013. Past winners include the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Fiston Mwanza Mujila (2015), South Africa’s Songeziwe Mahlangu (2014) and Zimbabwe’s NoViolet Bulawayo (2013).

Etisalat Prize for Literature 2018

Description

Following the successful completion of the fourth edition of its flagship pan-African literary prize, Nigeria’s most innovative telecommunications company, Etisalat, has announced a call for entries for the 2018 Etisalat Prize for Literature.

The Etisalat Prize for Literature is the first pan-African literary prize that celebrates African writers of a debut published book of fiction.

Prize Profile

The winner receives £15,000, an engraved Montblanc Meisterstück pen, and an Etisalat-sponsored fellowship at the University of East Anglia, where he or she will be mentored by Professor Giles Foden, author of The Last King of Scotland’. The winner and the two runners-up also participate in a multi-city book tour sponsored by Etisalat. Etisalat purchases 1,000 copies of each of the shortlisted titles for distribution to schools, libraries and book clubs across the African continent.
Alongside the Prize for Literature is the Flash Fiction Award, an online-based competition open to all African writers of unpublished short stories of no more than 300 words. The winner of the Flash Fiction Award receives £1,000 and a high-end device, while the two runners-up for the Flash Fiction Award receive £500 each in addition to high-end devices.

Criteria for Entry

Submissions will only be accepted from publishing houses
The Etisalat Prize for Literature is not open to employees of any organisation under Emirates Telecommunications Corporation with branded trade name Etisalat.
All books entered should have a registered ISBN number or equivalent.
Entries by new writers must be published within the last 24 months before submission
Entries for fiction books will be submitted by publishers who have published a minimum of three (3) authors.
Publisher should have been a registered business (with certificate of incorporation as a publisher) for minimum of three years
Each publisher will be allowed to enter a maximum of three (3) books – however books maybe called in by the judges.
Each entry will be required to be accompanied by Seven (7) copies of the book being entered along with acceptance of publicity terms.

SNEPCo, in partnership with three universities, namely the University of Birmingham, Newcastle University and University of Plymouth, will award three (3) scholarships for one year M.Sc, studies for the academic year commencing September 2017.

2017 Shell Nigeria Exploration and Producing Company (SNEPCo) Postgraduate Scholarship Programme

The following courses qualify for award of scholarships at the three institutions:

Eligibility
To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must:

Display intellectual ability and leadership potential
Meet the University’s English language requirements (usually at least 65 in IELTS, with a minimum of 5.5 in each element, or a minimum of C6 grade in English Language in SSCE (WAEC/NECO), or equivalent TOEFL, score valid for Sept 2017 admission)
Be aged below 28 years by 30/09/201 7
Possess a university degree equivalent to a UK Second Class Upper (Honours Degree) at a minimum Not hove studied previously in the UK or any other developed country
Have a valid Nigerian passport valid to December, 2018
Be neither current nor former employees (who have left employment less than 5 years before) of SPDC, the Royal Dutch Shell Group of Companies or the Nigerian Consultant;
Not be a spouse, child or ward of staff of Shell Companies in Nigeria or the Nigerian Consultant
Be of Nigerian nationality (proof of this will be required)
Currently reside in Nigeria
Be prepared to return and take up permanent residence in Nigeria after completion of the proposed programme of study

Applications for Six Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships in South Africa and Sri Lanka.

These Commonwealth Scholarships give talented students – who can be from any Commonwealth country other than the host country – the opportunity to gain a degree while developing new skills and experiencing life in another country. The scholarships are fully funded, including tuition fees, a return flight, an arrival allowance, and a living allowance.

Four fully-funded Research Master’s Scholarships are being offered at any ACU member university in South Africa, and are open to citizens of any Commonwealth country other than South Africa. Through the 3rd edition of the Annual Essay Competition, the NHEF is giving the Nigerian youth a voice and a platform to participate in these socially-relevant debates.

NHEF Essay Competition – Contest Price.

Grand prize winner of the 2017 Essay Competition will be awarded a cash prize of N100,000 with a year of paid tuition. First runner-up will be awarded a cash prize of N75,000 with a year of paid tuition. Second runner-up will be awarded N50,000 with a year of paid tuition.

NHEF Essay Competition – Criteria & Submission procedure.

All essays must comply with the following contest rules before submission:

• No literary form other than an essay will be accepted.
• Each piece of writing must reflect the contestant’s ability to explore and discuss ideas and ethical concepts.
• Essay must demonstrate the conduct of research and a sufficiently detailed summary.
• Essays must be 2000 words in length, double-spaced, (12pt Times New Roman), and numbered pages with one-inch margins excluding bibliography & title page.
• Each essay must include a Title Page, a Bibliography and a scanned copy of the contestant’s current student ID. The student’s registration ID# must appear at the header section of each page.
• Entries must be submitted in Microsoft Word or PDF format.
• References in the essay should be included and clearly identified.
• All entries must be submitted via e-mail to essay@thenhef.org by 11:59 p.m. (WAT) on May 15th , 2017.
Students are encouraged to study rules on how to avoid plagiarism as the essays will be checked for intellectual authenticity. This link contains a helpful guide.

Note

The commission will not enter into any form of communication with candidates who were not shortlisted for the computer based test (cbt) or those who were not invited for oral interview or candidates that were not successful at the oral interviews.
Preference would be given to candidates from oil producing/bearing communities/local government areas as long as candidates meet the approved cut off mark.
The commission will ensure a fair spread of courses among beneficiaries within each state.
Deferment, change of institution and course are not permitted.
The commission reserves the sole and absolute discretion to select applicants in line with the above stated criteria and its internal consideration. The decision of the commission in this regard is final.
