Job Description

The Rector is the Chief Academic Administrative and Accounting Officer & the Polytechnic, He has power to exercise general authority over both staff and students. He is also responsible for discipline in the Polytechnic, subject to the general control of the Governing Council
In addition to proven management and leadership experience, the successful candidate must have a demonstrable passion for academic endeavour and be credible to the Polytechnic.

Qualities and Qualifications

The candidate for the post is expected to possess the following academic qualifications and personal qualities:

Must hold a Masters or a Doctorate degree in any of the disciplines offered in the Polytechnic with a minimum of fifteen (15) years of professional and administrative experience, at least, five of which must have been gained in an institution of comparable status

Must be a Chief Lecturer with not less than five (5) years experience on that cadre.

Must not be more than sixty (60) years of age at the time of assumption of office

Must demonstrate evidence of strong academic and administrative leadership, initiative and creativity in Policy formulation, good human relations and positive managerial attributes.

Must provide evidence o membership of a reputable professional body in Nigeria

Must provide evidence of scholarly publications in reputable Journals as well as presentation of invited papers at educational conferences, seminars and/or workshops

Must be able to attract research grants and development facilities to the Polytechnic

Must be a person with initiative and vision fo.r sustaining the accelerated pace of development of the Polytechnic even under financial and other challenging constraints

Must be one who is not likely to pursue racial, ethnic, gender, political, religious or other sectional interest

Must be morally sound of impeccable character and free from financial embarrassment,

Must be a fair-minded and dynamic individual with an impeccable reputation

Must enjoy excellent physical and mental health with evidence from a Government Hospital

Must be proficient in Information & Communication Technology (ICt).

The MASTER IN ENERGY SECURITY MANAGEMENT (MESM) programme is robustly structured as a research master’s degree on the inter-disciplinary concerns on energy security of African countries and its interaction with national security. It is also focuses on the drafting and negotiation skills for the investments, financial, tax, royalty, contracts administration, project management, supply chain management, trans – border maritime, legal and arbitration aspects of the oil, gas, mining, electricity and renewable energy sectors of African countries.

It is pursuant to the above focus that the MESM programme covers the syllabus and deliveries that are known with the disciplines of LLM, MBA and MPA with an international benchmark and from an African perspective. The MESM programme shall discuss energy security threats from the producers as well as from the buyers’ perspectives.

The MESM programme shall similarly introduce students to legacy and contemporary issues pertaining to the ownership of energy resources in Africa and how these legacy issues have affected the development of the energy resources in the continent as well as the continent’s long term strategic interests.

The MESM programme shall use world class peer reviewed approach and training that are knitted in emerging licensing regimes for the extractive and electricity sectors.

Programmme Postgraduate Degree Programmes

A professional Master programme in Energy Security Management (MESM) is available for interested candidates.

Duration of Programme

Each admitted student for the masters degree programme shall pursue 18 months (3) semester of study for course work and final year project

History of KWASU
The journey towards establishing a state university in Kwara State began in November 1990. In 2002, Kwara Polytechnic was converted into a university by the then Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Alabi. On July 11, 2007 the Kwara State Governor Bukola Saraki inaugurated a Planning Committee under former Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Mohammed Shaaba Lafiagi to prepare the ground for the establishment of the Kwara State University. The Bill for the Kwara State University was signed into law on 24 December 2008. The certificate and instrument to operate the university was obtained on 9 February 2009 from the National Universities Commission (NUC). The pioneer Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abdul Rasheed Na’Allah, who until his appointment, was Chair of the African American Studies Department of the Western Illinois University, Macomb, United States of America, assumed office on Tuesday, 28 July 2009. The position requires an intelligent graduate of Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineering with at least five (5) to seven (7) years relevant experience in the downstream oil and gas sector.
